Pre-Design Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who owns the copyright to my design?
    Copyright of the design and artwork produced by Colourful Coffins is vested in and remains the exclusive property of Colourful Coffins and licensed exclusively to the Customer in perpetuity for the Customer's personal use only.
  2. Does the pre-design fee buy me the coffin as well?
    The pre-design fee covers the design consultation process and does NOT cover the purchase price of the coffin. This can only be purchased from a UK-based funeral director.
  3. What exactly do I get for my money?
    The pre-design fee you pay covers the cost of having a custom Colourful Coffin designed just for you and no one else. It includes a personal consultation with one of our experienced designers who will then work with you to translate your ideas into a wonderful design. It includes proofs for you to see and, once you're happy with the design, we'll send you the approved version in a special pre-design pack with a certificate, photographs of the design and the artwork on a specially protected CD-ROM.
  4. How much will the actual coffin cost?
    Because we only sell directly to funeral directors, we don't typically divulge our prices. However, we can say that the cost of a Colourful Coffin is on a par with a typical pine coffin.
  5. What would happen if you were to cease trading? Wouldn't my design be lost?
    Absolutely not. Colourful Coffins parent company Parchment has been trading for over 50 years. In the unlikely event that we were to cease trading, Colourful Coffins will ensure that the encryption keys for unlocking the artwork held on the pre-design pack CD-ROM is released to all customers. This data can then accessed and produced using an alternative picture coffin supplier.
  6. Can I purchase pre-design on behalf of a friend or loved on?
    Colourful Coffins Pre-Design Service is only available to individuals who wish to design their own coffin. It cannot be purchased by any third party, or on behalf of somebody else.
